Whirlwind Update.... where to start

I left over a week ago for Los Angeles for some training time at ADT.... via Tucson.  Yep, normally this doesn't make sense BUT my mom (from the ATL) was visiting my grandma and others relatives down there.  Good reason to "swing by Tucson on the way."I made it to LA where I have been staying with my teammate Kate.... meet Kate.

Don't get confused.  This is a new Kate.  Nobody can replace the old Kate teammate but I am up for new adventures with the new Kate teammate.
We have had good times training at the track and hanging out in The OC.  ha!  I am not much of an OC girl but I love Kate's place here!

A bike shop in her loft style townhouse.  Greg, can you build me one?

Tough days of training.  Friday night racing.  Saturday road ride by the ocean.  Sunday circuit race at LAX.... and I won :)

Pirate ship in the OC.  Beware people!

Oh, and, my brother in-law (from Montana) happened to be in the Newport Beach area randomly for about 24 hours.  We met up for lunch with a cousin from their side that I had never met.  (Yes, I am still looking like I was on a ride because the phone call was out of the blue and I meet him basically on my ride.)
Oh, bonus!  One of the best girls friends ever was in LA (from NYC) with her hubby.  Met up with them after the race today.
Wow- whirlwind!  I told you.  Tomorrow starts another week.  Maybe there will be down time?

Spring Fling

It's been a long time since Greg and I went on a "vacation" that didn't include him just traveling somewhere for me to race a bike.
Tomorrow we go home but we have spent the last 4ish days up in Steamboat Springs with some ATL friends out here for their kids' spring break.  The weather has been pretty amazing and there has even been fresh powder most the days.
There was no downhill skiing for me on this trip because its that time of year that I need to be concentrating on my training for cycling.  But, nordic skiing is GREAT cross training.  I am also caught up on sleep and relaxation. (It's pretty funny that the difference between our vacation and theirs.... they are super active skiing every day/all day and Greg and I have been chill.)

Greg skate skiing with blue Colorado skies.  I have never stopped falling in love with these mountains.
Ok- so no bike racing but we couldn't travel without the bikes!  There is training to be done.
Seeing our friends and their kids has brought a huge smile to my face.  It is amazing how much we miss by only catching up every couple years.

No mountain vacation is complete without S'MORES.
My fling with the mountains ends tomorrow and I don't expect to have much time up here until next winter.  I will miss them but they are always in my heart no matter where I travel.

Sorry for the squeaky voice.  Do I really sound like that?

Missy and I started a junior cycling team, Flatiron Flyers.  They are awesome and are so much fun to work with.

This past weekend we attended a fundraiser for the Davis Phinney Foundation which was something like a "ride-a-thon."  I couldn't believe how many juniors from our team showed up and rode the whole three hours.

Cade rode the roller for about 1.5 hours before leaving for a basketball game.  And, whenever the teacher told us to stand, Cade stood.  What a stud!  11 years old.  Oh, and when he left his younger brother (7) jumped on the rollers for the rest of the ride.
Jens is the owner of Flatiron Athletic Club where the event was held.  This is also a new sponsor of the Flatiron Flyers Junior Cycling Project.  Thanks Jens!

We won the award for the largest team participation (15!).... parents, juniors, Missy... it was great.  The team also raised $400 to help research for Parkinson's Disease.

Good times and a great cause!
